Melbourne Visit: October 2009
I was in Melbourne at the end of October for Booktalkers, Bring The Funny, an event organised by The Centre For Youth Literature. Fellow writers David Metzenthen, Penny Tangey and Kirsten Murphy were also there.
On the Tuesday we were at Carey Grammar School where extracts from our books were performed by a bunch of very talented actors. Trust me, it is a strange feeling to see a character you created walking around a stage! All of the writers were impressed with the quality of the performances and the students at Carey seemed to enjoy it as well as the talks we provided afterwards. On the Wednesday students visited the State Library for more performances and talks. I had a great time and would like to thank everyone at the CYL for organising it and, in particular, the enthusiastic students who attended.
I also had time to talk to my publishers at Allen & Unwin. My latest manuscript, Being Here, is scheduled for release in September, 2010. This is a phenomenally short time between receipt of manuscript and publication.
Everyone is excited about the new book - no one more than me.
Watch out for more information as the publishing process continues...
A dystopian novel that places a young girl in a new and terrifying environment. The world seems to have died, but Pandora Jones has more questions than there appear to be answers...
What's an eleven-year-old boy to do when an ugly dog called Blacky appears on his bed and tells him he has been given the mission to rescue God? This is a 'fast and funny book' from CBCA-shortlisted author Barry Jonsberg.
